David Eaves

An expert in negotiation and public policy, David works with two spin-offs of the Harvard Negotiation Project, Common Outlook and Vantage Partners, developing and implementing collaborative negotiation strategies.


David Eaves 150picDavid has worked with leading companies across North America and Europe in a range of industries including financial services, healthcare, information technology, and telecommunications.  In addition, David works with community groups, non-profits and government agencies consulting on negotiation strategy and public policy issues.

In his spare time David writes on public policy, foreign policy, public service sector renewal, open source systems on his blog www.eaves.ca.  In addition, he frequently publishes on these subjects in the Toronto Star and Embassy Magazine.  He occasionally posts to The National Dream a blog hosted by the Dominion Institute, a national charitable organization dedicated to creating active and informed citizens through knowledge and appreciation of the Canadian story.  He has also volunteered extensively with Canada25, a non-profit think-tank that engages Canadians aged 20-35 around the world in public policy debates. David founded Canada25’s Boston Chapter and served as lead author of “From Middle to Model Power: Recharging Canada’s Role in the World.”

David is a frequent speaker to students, academics and policymakers on issues relating to negotiation as well as Canadian public and foreign policy. He has been invited to speak at, among other institutions, Mt. Allison University, the University of British Columbia, Queen’s University, McGill University, the Privy Council Office, Millennium Scholarship Foundation, Radio Canada International, Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute, and Heritage Canada. In addition, David was invited, on behalf of Canada25, to present to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Parliamentary Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs.

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, David completed a Bachelor of Arts in history at Queen’s University in 1998 and a Master’s of International Relations at Oxford in 2000.  In 2005-06 David was a Sauvé Scholar at McGill University in Montreal and an Action Canada Fellow.
