Aaron Freeman is the Policy Director for Environmental Defence.  His areas of specialization include climate change, toxic substances and pollution, and species at risk.  Prior to joining Environmental Defence in September 2006, Aaron coordinated several national advocacy campaigns on environment, democratic reform, consumer, international development and human rights issues.
Aaron is a part-time faculty member at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, where he teaches “The Law of Canadian Democracy.”  He is the co-author of The Laws of Government: The Legal Foundations of Canadian Democracy, the most comprehensive legal reference book on the law of Canadian democracy (published in 2005 by Irwin Law; 2d. ed. planned for 2009).  Aaron is a board member of Open Medicine, a peer-reviewed, independent, open-access scientific and medical research journal.  He is also a regular columnist with The Hill Times (www.thehilltimes.ca), Canada’s parliamentary newspaper.

In 2008, The Hill Times named Aaron one of the Top 100 Federal Lobbyists in Canada, an honour that he greeted with an 80:20 mix of horror and pride.
