Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

“The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings” – Eric Hoffer The practice of gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful personal habits that you can cultivate.

The conscious act of offering gratitude for what we receive in our life shifts our attention away from what we lack and onto what we have.  And where you focus your attention and what you give your energy to, is what will grow in your life.  Offer gratitude for your blessings and watch them grow.

One simple practice we can offer is:  Every morning say out loud 5 things you are grateful for.  They may be people in your life, events, moments, material things, anything.  Just take a moment, upon waking, or in the shower, or on your way into work, and think about what you are grateful for.  Let yourself feel that gratitude as you offer thanks.  Do this for one week and see how it feels.  If you like how it feels, make it a life-long practice!
