Rex Weyler
Rex Weyler is a journalist, ecologist, a cofounder of Greenpeace International, and a co-founder of Hollyhock. In the 1970s, he was a director of the Greenpeace Foundation and editor of the Greenpeace Chronicles. He is the author of Greenpeace: The Inside Story (Raincoast, 2004). His book Blood of the Land, a history of the American Indian Movement, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1982.
From 1985-92, Weyler worked with the BC fishing community to draft legislation limiting dioxin effluents from B.C. pulp mills. In 2005, he participated in a campaign in Argentina, to successfully preserve an 18,000-hectare homeland for the Wichi Indians, threatened by industrial plantations.
Weyler is a co-author of Chop Wood, Carry Water: A Guide to Finding Spiritual Fulfillment in Everyday Life. His essays appear regularly in the Vancouver Sun, and Tyee news online.
